Why one to one?
A one-to-one model will do several things to improve the learning experience for students. One to one will help with developing technology skills, will be more cost efficient for the district, will increase the quality and quantity of writing, and will encourage student collaboration.
Who gets a chromebook?
All students in grades 7-12 attending Deer Park Jr/Sr High School full time.
What will this chromebook cost me as a parent?
Nothing. The district will be providing chromebooks to students at no cost, with the exception of a $25 insurance fee (see below for more information on this).
When does my child pick up his/her/their chromebook?
There will be an orientation for parents and students the evening of August 8th. A student and parent will be required to be in attendance in order to pick up a chromebook. If families are unable to attend on August 8th, students will be able to pick it up on the first day of school. Final Forms must be completed before a student’s chromebook may be distributed.
What happens if there is damage to the chromebook or is lost/stolen?
A $25 fee will be assessed to all students to cover the cost of repair, in the case that there is accidental damage. This fee will only cover accidental damage. If the damage is malicious or intentional, the student will be responsible for the full cost of the repair. This decision is based on administrator discretion.
Can I take the chromebook to a local repair shop?
Do not take your chromebook to a local repair shop. Further incidental hardware or software damages may unintentionally occur, and the parent/student will be responsible for the costs for further repair.
Is my child allowed to use the chromebook for personal reasons?
As these chromebooks are distributed to students by Deer Park Community/City Schools, students should only use the chromebooks for educational purposes. Please have your child use a personal device for person reasons (including social media, games, personal emails, streaming videos, etc.). Students account history will be tracked, and may be subject to administrative review.
Can we buy insurance for the chromebook?

Does my child take the chromebook to and from school each day?
Students are expected to bring their chromebooks to school, charged, each day and then take them home with them each afternoon. The office will have a few spare chromebooks for loaner purposes. However, this will also be subject to disciplinary action if it occurs on a regular basis. Chromebooks are essential instructional tools, looked at the same as bringing binders, pencils and other schools supplies to school each day.
When does my child turn back in her/his/their chromebook?
Students will turn chromebooks in at the end of the school year and pick back up at the start at the start of the next school year.
How do I make sure that my child’s chromebook is charged?
We encourage students to plug in their chromebooks each evening, as to make sure they are coming to school with a full charge each day. There is a green light on the side of the chromebook that will light up once it is charged. The light will remain orange until it is fully charged.
What type of device will my child get?
There are six different models of Chromebooks in the High School that is currently in circulation. All of them have the same capabilities that is needed to do classwork.
If I don’t have internet at home, how can my child complete work?
Students can work “offline” on their chromebook and all work will be uploaded once he/she/they connect to the internet. There are also a number of locations in Deer Park that provide free wifi. The Public Library in Dillonvale is a great resource and provides free wifi.
Instead of using a district-issued chromebook, can I supply my child with his/her/their own chromebook to take to and from school?
Your child needs to have their district issued chrome book with them at school. This is to ensure that devices are appropriately managed and ready for required testing.
Can I just send my own chromebook with my child?
While at the Junior/Senior High School, students’ access to the WiFi is limited to their chromebook settings. Therefore, students’ personal devices will not be able to log into the school WiFi. Students will need to use the school-issued chromebooks only at school also to ensure students are using their devices for the intended purposes.
Can my child decorate his/her/their chromebook?
No, we ask that students not decorate their chromebooks.
Will my child get a case or carrier for his/her/their chromebook?
No cases or carriers will be issued. We will provide specs and links to cases so that they may be purchased if you would like your child to have a case.
Can my child be reprimanded and receive discipline for inappropriate use at home?
Yes. Inappropriate use of a school device is prohibited at all times.
